Server or client issue?

This morning I tried to play but the client said the server was offline. I checked the website and it was unable to be found. I waited an hour or so and checked the site again, saw that it was up and running and there was around 1400 people in game. I tried to run the client again and got to the part where I put in my user name and password but then I got a box that popped up that was blank, and had a button. I click the button and nothing happens. I'm not sure if the player count is people stuck in the game or if I'm one of the unlucky ones that has issues. I even tried to re-download the client to see if that would help but it didn't.

Was there a server crash? Is anyone else having issues getting into the game?

Whenever you have client issues, your first course of action should be to check the troubleshooting guide:

Under technical issues > blank error:

Rename the folder containing MapleStory.exe to something else.

If issue persists, watch this video to permanently resolve it.

Give us an update after you try, and we can see if there are other solutions.

rename yor folder maplestory (folder have appdata and patchdata inside) Ex: maple69story

Ok so I didn't know that other people had the same issue as me, so I didn't think to look in the tech support. My bad, but thank you both for helping me try to find a solution. I ended up watching the video and I don't have a sub directory called AppCompatFlags. I also tried renaming the folder that had appdata and patchdata in it, and nothing seems to work. I have never been any good at technical support type stuff that's why I post on forums.

It used to work fine, I've been playing this server for several months, it's not like I'm new and have no clue whats going on. [I mean, technically I have no clue whats going on, but I'm not a new player.]

Also, after trying both of your suggestions, I still get a blank box when I try to run the game.

I'd say it's way easier to do a clean install following the install guide listed here:

Otherwise, it's be helpful if you could provide all possible information including screenshots of your Maplestory folder, exclusions, etc. Also make sure to disable automatic updates in the Nexon launcher.
